Laundromat adds books to spin cycle
Read ahead
, a multi-year grantmaking initiative and public information campaign launched by the Central New York Community Foundation to address the issue of literacy from early childhood to adulthood, has been aided by many community partners. One of those vital partners has been Colonial Laundromat. Colonial placed bookshelves in ten of their locations to promote reading while families are doing laundry or to take books home to enjoy. Many local companies and their employees participated in the collection of the books through a community-wide book drive. Over 10,000 books were collected as a result of the drive.
Read ahead provides support to strengthen literacy service providers and their programs. We reach out to volunteers, donors and those needing literacy services. To learn more about read ahead, visit
