The McCabes and Their Community
When John and Bonnie McCabe wanted to establish a scholarship fund in memory of their son, Kevin, a gifted photographer, they chose the Community Foundation. They commented that the staff was welcoming and nurturing. Even though it was a highly emotional time, the foundation helped them accomplish exactly what they wanted. As a result, the Kevin McCabe Memorial Scholarship Fund provides annual scholarships for students attending the Maine Photographic Workshop and S.U.’s School Press Institute.
Since then, the couple has also established a donor-advised fund. It allows them to direct their giving to places that are important to them and their children – something they enjoy doing as a family.
John B. McCabe, MD, is Professor and Chair of Emergency Medicine at Upstate Medical University. Bonnie McCabe is the founder of Community Learning and Information Center (CLIC), a community center with a focus on education.
