LeadSafeCNY
While lead paint was banned from use 40 years ago, local children are still being poisoned in their own homes at an alarming rate. This issue hits our highest poverty neighborhoods hardest, where most residents live in deteriorating housing built before 1980 and costly repairs can often exceed property values. LeadSafeCNY is a multi-year commitment to end childhood lead poisoning in Syracuse through investments in new construction, renovations, training and workforce development, community awareness, and public advocacy.
Madison County Rural Poverty Fund
A person’s geographic location can have a major effect on their socioeconomic status and potential mobility. Lack of access to needed services, jobs and reliable transportation create significant barriers to maintaining employment and receiving healthcare. Children living in poverty are not exposed to the same learning opportunities as their wealthier counterparts and can experience lifelong effects from the disparity. The Madison County Rural Poverty Fund supports poverty-related causes in Madison County, where approximately 10 percent of the population live below the federal poverty rate.
Say Yes Scholarship Endowment Fund
The Say Yes Scholarship Endowment Fund is housed at the Community Foundation to ensure that the promise of education continues for Syracuse City School students into perpetuity.
Strategic Partnership Fund
In an atmosphere of finite resources, nonprofits must continually seek to enhance efficiencies, decrease overhead costs or otherwise adapt in order to maintain or expand operations. The Strategic Partnership Fund supports organizations seeking to create new synergies in and between nonprofits, such as mergers and affiliations, which will enable them to enhance program delivery and achieve more effective and efficient use of limited financial and human resources. Our hope is that the financial support offered through the fund will enable these collaborative partnerships to prosper.
Workforce Development Fund
This fund was established to support Work Train, a workforce development initiative developed to create job opportunities for low-income residents in Syracuse. This effort was created to help local employers fill gaps in their workforce by identifying their specialized, and sometimes industry-specific, employment needs and working with local education partners and community service organizations to train interested individuals in those fields before placement.
