Helping Hounds Wins #GivingTuesdayCNY!
"Helping Hounds would simply not exist without the overwhelming support of our volunteers and this community,"— HelpingHoundsCNY.com
We are pleased to announce that the winner of the Community Foundation's 2013 #GivingTuesdayCNY Social Media competition is Helping Hounds Dog Rescue. The organization will be awarded a $5,000 grant. This time last year, Helping Hounds Dog Rescue in Dewitt was at risk of closing and in dire need of additional donations. The four year old dog shelter has a small staff and is primarily a volunteer run rescue.
So many shelters have to euthanize dogs on a daily basis due to overcrowding. HHDR pulls dogs from high-kill shelters, begins a minimum of a two-week foster-based preparation program with them, socializes, vets, evaluates, and most importantly loves their dogs before they head to a new home. The dog rescue has placed over 4,000 rescued dogs in "forever homes" and as the winner of #GivingTuesdayCNY, Helping Hounds has a wonderful network rallying for them and the adorable pups and dogs they serve.
#GivingTuesdayCNY garnered more than 5,000 votes in just 24 hours! This grant was only one of several grant opportunities offered by the Central New York Community Foundation each year. The Community Foundation awarded $8.3 million in grants to nonprofit organizations last year and since its inception has invested more than $120 million in the Central New York community.
